The Mare Nostrum Global Initiative // Founding Board Member

I am a founding board member of The Mare Nostrum Global Initiative, an avenue for applying my deep passion for tackling the ocean plastics problem. Mare Nostrum is committed to driving systemic change to eliminate plastic waste from our oceans.

We are an independent coordinating vehicle that brokers multi-stakeholder partnerships to ensure effective, economic and ecologically driven transformation to the life-cycle of synthetic plastics with the end goal of creating a scalable blueprint.

Our initial focus is on two Global Marine Hotspots with fast-growing economies driven by nature-tourism: The Baja California Peninsula and the Sea of Cortes in Mexico, and the marine realm of Sulawesi and West Papua in Indonesia. We aim to transform Los Cabos into the first plastic neutral tourism destination by 2025.

In these projects, we work to:

◇ Develop effectual policy and regulatory frameworks;
◇ Capture opportunities and value created by an effective after-use plastics economy;
◇ Enable communication between stakeholders all along the global plastics value chain and act as Communications Platform for the global community;
◇ Create a blueprint that is replicable, scalable and locally adaptable;
◇ Play an advisory role by engaging industry leaders and policy makers to strengthen cross-sector relationships
